Two year suspended jail sentence for Ananda Sarath Kumara

Former North Western Provincial Councillor Ananda Sarath Kumara who made a teacher kneel before her class at his daughter’s school and caused a controversy was sentenced to two years rigorous imprisonment today, suspended for seven years.
Puttalam High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando handed down the sentence on Monday.
President’s Counsel Anil Silva, Attorney-at-Law Nadvi Navavi, Attorney-at-Law Thivanka Ekanayake and Attorney-at-Law Rasika Balasuriya appeared for the former provincial councillor in court.
Attorney-at-Law Priyantha Gamage appeared for the plaintiff teacher.
Handing down the sentence, Puttalam High Court Judge Priyantha Fernando ordered the suspect to pay a fine of Rs. 50,000 adding that he would serve a prison term of six months in the event of failure to pay the fine.
