The Central Bank for 2013 reveals that the number of internet connections had grown by 47 percent in 2013 compared to 2012. The report adds that the Mobile Data connections have contributed to this growth. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka says that as the number of users who access the internet via mobile phones without a proper data package have been included in the survey, the actual number of internet users can be higher than predicted. In 2012 the number of fixed line users stood at 17 percent and that figure dropped to 13.2 percent in 2013. The Central Bank of Sri Lanka says that as of the end of 2013, the number of persons who own a mobile phone in Sri Lanka was 99.2 percent of the total population.
